The Barr Brothers Duo & La Force

  • Race Brook Lodge Race Brook Lodge Sheffield United States (map)

The Barr Brothers have increasingly established themselves as some of the most prominent purveyors of eclectic and modern Americana music in the West. Their performances are some of the most sublime live music experiences we will ever encounter. For this appearance on November 17th at Race Brook Lodge, Brad & Andrew Barr will perform as a Duo.

This performance will feature special guest La Force.  La Force’s music is electric + vivid, and also tactile + grimy—a sound that enfolds influences as disparate as Tirzah, Unknown Mortal Orchestra, Jazmine Sullivan, the Cocteau Twins, Mica Levi, Tricky w/ Marina Topley-Bird, and even Joni Mitchell’s “Don Juan’s Reckless Daughter.” XO Skeleton bends and turns with its every shift of pulse—mournful, searching, turned on. Like a body, you might say. Or the memory of one.

Stay over with us! Race Brook is offering a 20% discount on overnight accommodations for guests attending The Barr Brothers using code BROTHERS. Click here to book your room with the discount now.

ARTIST BIO

The Barr Brothers have increasingly established themselves as some of the most prominent purveyors of eclectic and modern Americana music in the West. Their sound is primarily fueled by the polyrhythmic and playful drumming of Andrew Barr, and brother Brad Barr’s innovative prowess on the guitar. The band expands and contracts their sound and scope from their base of operations in Montreal, Quebec. Bass, pedal steel guitar, keyboards and brass come and go freely in the mix. As comfortable with solemn Arcadian ballads as with swampy North African improvisations or more classic rock'n'roll, The Barr Brothers continue to embrace and delight audiences with their both methodical and fanciful. For this appearance on November 17th the brothers will perform as a duo.

The success of this natural and yet unprecedented convergence of influences allowed The Barr Brothers to perform at Levon Helm Studios in Woodstock, NY, at the legendary Red Rocks Amphitheater, twice on the “Late Show with David Letterman”, in Japan, Europe and the United Kingdom. They also received two Juno nominations for Adult Alternative Album of the Year, in 2013 and 2015. Over the next year, they will once again draw from their vast and diverse pool of inspirations to experiment and to record a third full-length album. Malian Bassekou Kouyaté and his partner Amy Sacko will also join forces with the group for two unprecedented collaborative performances during the summer of 2017, at the Quebec Summer Festival and the Montreal International Jazz Festival. The mixture of both figurative and literal musical traditions will then be brilliantly highlighted.
